George refereed the opening game of the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand on 9 September 2011 between the hosts and Tonga.
The international referee was then chosen as part of a 12-member panel that officiated at the World Cup World Cup 2015.
To mark the World Cup 2015, the Grange native attended a reception hosted by the Queen who chatted to him about everything from the respect that referees are shown, to the size of rugby players.
