Matt Philip ruled out of Australia's end of year tour

Australia have been dealt an injury blow ahead of the Autumn Nations Series with Matt Phillip ruled out with an ACL injury.

The knee injury was picked up ahead of the Wallabies' departure on Wednesday with the second rower driven to hospital where scans confirmed the 27-Test lock suffered an ACL injury..

Australia have five tests this November against Scotland, France, Italy, Ireland, and Wales. 

The Wallabies did welcome the return of Michael Hooper for the tour after the flanker swiftly made himself unavailable for the Rugby Championship on the eve of their opening match.

However, their lock stocks will be tested this November with Phillip's injury.

Darcy Swain is suspended for the opening two matches of the tour while Will Skelton will only be available from the second match as the first falls outside of World Rugby's international window.

Rennie did not call in a replacement for Phillip but could turn to the likes of Lukhan Salakaia-Loto and Rob Simmons who are plying their trade in the Premiership.
