The ACT Brumbies have added more steel to their forward pack, securing the signature of back-rower Leafi Talataina from the NSW Waratahs on a two-year deal.
Talataina, 22, arrives in Canberra after making 17 appearances for the Waratahs in Super Rugby Pacific.
Wellington-born Talataina moved to Australia at the age of eight. He launched his professional career with the Melbourne Rebels before making the move to Sydney ahead of the 2024 Super Rugby Pacific season. A standout for the Australia U20s in 2023, he was widely regarded as one of the country's brightest young back-row prospects before injuries interrupted his rise.

Capable of playing at blindside flanker or No.8, the 196cm, 124kg enforcer has steadily forged his reputation at Super Rugby level since making his debut for the Waratahs against the Western Force in 2025.
Now, in testament to the old adage of iron sharpening iron, Talataina is ready to hone his game in Canberra alongside some of the competition's premier loose forwards, including Rob Valetini, Charlie Cale, and Rory Scott.
"I'm really excited to be joining the Brumbies and taking the next step in my rugby journey," Talataina said.
"The Brumbies have a reputation for producing top-quality forwards and helping players reach their potential. Being able to train and compete alongside the awesome players at the Brumbies is a massive opportunity for me.
"I want to keep developing my game, earn my place in the team and contribute wherever I can.
"I can't wait to get down to Canberra, meet the boys and get to work."
ACT Brumbies Head Coach Stephen Larkham believes Talataina has all the tools to become a key contributor in the years ahead.
"Leafi is a young forward with a really high ceiling, and we're delighted to bring him to the Brumbies," Larkham said.
"He's a physical player who has a strong ball carry, relishes the tough work and has shown he can make an impact whenever he's been given an opportunity.
"We've built a strong culture around competition and continual improvement, and we think Leafi will thrive in that environment.
"He'll add further depth and power to our back-row stocks, and we're excited to help him continue growing his game here in Canberra."
The next chapter in Talataina's rugby journey begins in Canberra, with the talented back-rower set to join the Brumbies ahead of the 2026 Super Rugby AUS season.
