Future of Sevens threatened by funding cuts

The irony is rich.

For years Scotland bumbled around the international sevens circuit while making a bit of a hash of hosting their home tournament.

Now that they are getting their act together on both fronts it seems it could all disappear.

World Rugby is expected to pull the plug on the Glasgow leg of sevens series and, if it does, the Scottish Rugby Union may feel it has no choice but to slash the £1million a year funding that backs the team.

So enjoy the event at Scotstoun stadium today — it may be the last.
