After a patient build up, Western Province are rewarded, and Aplon earns his twenty-fourth Currie Cup try. They build their way deep into Bull territory and begin to hammer the defences. Eventually, Aplon receives the ball out wide, brushes off one challenge, ducks under another, and dots down.

Bulls earn a penalty early on, when Western Province enter a maul illegally inside their own half. Visser steps up for kick number one, but can't convert to points.
On a side note, the games first scrum is blown up for a crooked feed - referees sticking to their guns after warning about stricter enforcement of the straight feed. Front rows are also binding under the new rules.

Hello and welcome. Traditional rivals, Western Province and Blue Bulls kick off their campaigns today in this Cape Town clash. The boys from the coast, Western Province, won their first Currie Cup title in a decade last season and today begin their defence of said cup. Both sides have several players in the Springbok squad and the Bulls have also been decimated by injuries and the departures of several stalwarts to overseas-based clubs. This means that there will be several débutantes in action. Kick off on the way..
