Burns getting ambitious with a penalty effort from inside his own half which lands way short.
Freddie Burns kicks his side into a one point lead with his best strike of the game. If he can kick from the tee like this for the remainder of the game it will have a big input into the end result of this game.
Star of the Lions tour George North had his first sniff at a chance as he tried to scamper around the outside and in for a try. Charlie Sharples did excellent however to get low and force the powerful winger into touch.
Instant response from Northampton who hit back with a try of their own. Poor discipline at the break-down from Gloucester gave the Saints a chance to pin the ball deep inside the Cherry and White's 22. From the line-out the Saints pack rumbled towards the line with Samu Manoa eventually falling over the line to touch down. Stephen Myler converts confidently.
Perfect start to the second half for Gloucester with centre Billy Twelvetrees crashing over for a try. Jimmy Cowan reacted quick to the awarding of a free-kick and went immediately. The All-black fed Twelvetrees who bounced out of tackles to score. Burns had no problems converting and Gloucester lead for the first time, 15-10.
Back in action for the second half with both sides unchanged. Big half ahead.
10-8 is the half-time score here with visitors Northampton in the lead. Both sides will feel they are well in with a shout here and it's all to play for in the second half.
Try for Gloucester! Eventually the wide, attacking minded play of the home team pays dividends as winger Charlie Sharples crosses in the corner. The backs moved the ball well with crisp passing and direct running to fix the defending players. When Sharples took the ball he was at great pace and the covering Northampton defence could not prevent the winger from crossing. Burns couldn't convert from the touchline.
Stephen Myler kicks 3 points for his side after Billy Twelvetrees is penalised for not realising his opposite number Luther Burrell in the tackle.
Dickinson has returned from his stint in the bin. Gloucester will be pleased with their positive play in the last 10 but the fact they failed to capitilise on the numerical advantage will disappoint them.
