Northampton do create a bit of momentum and work their way gradually towards the line. Just as they start to look threatening, Henry Trinder stands up and makes a massive tackle then immediately gets to his feet to turn over the ball. This piece of individual endeavor has really lifted the crowd.
Both sides are attempting to put a bit of width on the ball but neither making a great deal of progress in the last few exchanges.
Yellow card for Sam Dickinson after a dangerous tackle on James Simpson-Daniel as the winger was elevated claiming a high kick. Dickinson may feel a little unlucky as he simply miss-timed it as opposed to a cynical tackle.
Disaster for Gloucester as Henry Trinder butchers which should have been a definite try. Burns spotted space behind the Saints defensive line and Trinder just had to gather and fall over the line but he failed to do so and knocked on. Let off for Northampton. Score remains 7-3.
Burns misses with his second attempt. This time a much further effort fails to hold its line and drifts wide on the right.
Gloucester's 10 Freddie Burns strikes from a penalty inside the 22. Not his cleanest strike but goes through the posts regardless and his side are off the mark.
Decent response from Gloucester as they show good pace and intent with ball in hand. Opt to go for the corner from a penalty so now have a line-out meters from the line.
Opening try of the game and it goes the way of Jim Mallinder's Northampton side. A big bust from Luther Burrell set Northampton away on the front foot. When they went wide there was simply too much numbers and Ben Foden crosses after a nice flick from Stephen Myler. Myler converted for a 7-0 lead.
Underway here at Kingsholm. Martin Fox is the man in the middle and is a late call up after Greg Garner pulled a hamstring in the past few days.
Welcome to this afternoon's game between two sides of contrasting early form, two from two Northampton travel to win-less Gloucester. Northampton will be high in confidence after an impressive, steely victory on the road against Quins. On the other hand Gloucester will be desperate to restore some pride as they only have one losing bonus point to show for themselves after a home game against Sharks and an away trip to Saracens.
