RWC2025 | Canada head coach Kevin Rouet, captain Alex Tessier and Sophie de Goede react to their 42-0 win

Canada head coach Kevin Rouet, captain Alex Tessier and Mastercard Player of the Match Sophie de Goede react to their 42-0 win over Wales in the second round of Pool B matches at Salford Community Stadium on Saturday.

Kevin Rouet, head coach

On how it feels to win:

"Forty two points, we would have signed for that so we are quite happy."

On what pleased him most:

"We had some brilliant moments on the field but 27 turnovers is way too many - 42 points with so many mistakes like that, it's amazing."

On Scotland next:

"They'll believe they could get us on some turnovers. We know we have a job to do to refine our game. I am excited for next week because we want to play a good game of rugby."

Alex Tessier, captain

On the win:

"It was not maybe our best performance but we still got the job done, we got five points and we're ready for next."

On what they are happy with:

"We forced a lot of turnovers. We knocked on the ball way too many times, maybe 27 handling errors, so we can improve for the next game. When we play and retain that ball I think our style is exciting but we gave up momentum, so that is key for us."

On how crucial the game against Scotland is:

"It's crucial. It's our last pool game. We will refine some stuff and be prepared for what is coming after."

Mastercard Player of the Match Sophie de Goede

On the match:

"I think we did well to manage that game because Wales came out with a lot of fire and fight as we knew they would. They're a nation with a lot of pride so big respect to them. I'm really proud of our girls for weathering it.

"We have another match against Scotland to set us up well for the quarter-final. We will enjoy this one and then focus on that."

On importance of finishing top of the group to become top seed:

"It's massive. You have seen lots of World Cups decided by favourites going out in the quarters so it's really important for us to set ourselves up well. Scotland is a quality side so we will look forward to the match against Fiji."
