The enigmatic Francois Steyn's first run in a Springbok jersey

The professional era has seen a multitude of Springbok names rise and stand amongst the best. With regard to backline players, few have matched the astonishing versatility and raw talent of Francois Steyn.
Steyn excelled at rugby while receiving his education at the famous Grey College in Bloemfontein and was snapped up by the Durban-based Sharks before he had even completed his schooling.
His talents, displayed during only ten Currie Cup appearances, were enough to impress then Springbok coach Jake White who selected the 19 year old to tour the UK and Ireland in the latter part of 2006.
Steyn made his Springbok debut on 11 November at Lansdowne Road. Despite turning out in the unfamiliar number 11 jersey, he seemed high on the confidence of youth, putting in a promising display which included a try in the corner.
The Irish, naturally, asked many questions of Steyn, peppering him with high balls over the course of the game. The youngster, however, stood resolute in the face of their attack and gave good, vibrant account of himself.
