Prop duo sign short-term deals with Harlequins

Harlequins can confirm the short-term signings of props Joe Jones and Alessandro Heaney.

The pair arrive at The Stoop after Ethan Clarke and Jamie Miller sustained injuries in last Friday’s fixture against Northampton Saints. In addition, tighthead prop Luke Yendle has been recalled by Dragons RFC from his loan spell.

Joe Jones (30) joins from CHAMP side Doncaster Knights and will remain with the Club until the end of the 2025/26 season. The experienced Welsh tighthead has previously represented Perpignan in Pro D2 and made 58 appearances for PREM side, Sale Sharks. Jones has also had spells with Scarlets and Coventry Rugby prior to his time at Doncaster.

Alessandro Heaney (23) adds cover at loosehead. The former RFC Los Angeles prop made 16 appearances for Cornish Pirates after arriving from Major League Rugby. Heaney will remain with Harlequins in the short term before returning to the United States in March to join Anthem Rugby Charlotte.

Senior Coach, Jason Gilmore said: “With injuries to Harry Williams, Ethan Clarke and Jamie Miller in the past week and Luke Yendle returning to the Dragons, we’ve had to add further depth to our front row for the PREM Cup campaign and beyond.

“We’re in a tough spot in two specialist positions which we’re having to navigate on the move. Joe and Alessandro have come into the building this week and had to settle in quickly, but they are excited for the opportunity to contribute to the shirt.”

Joe Jones and Alessandro Heaney are immediately available for selection.
