Brumbies Search For Halfback Fails
- 1564
The Brumbies search for a new scrum-half for the 2016 season has been an exhaustive one with the Australian outfit speaking to a number of top players across the globe.
According to Australia’s The Daily Telegraph the two-time champions have now decided to go with up-and-coming number nine Michael Dowsett moving forward, with star scrum-half Nic White on his way to Montpellier following the Rugby World Cup.
However before making that decision the Brumbies went global with their initial recruitment plans, including discussions with current England players Ben Youngs and Danny Care.
Other players on their list included Scotland captain Greig Laidlaw, Springbok players Fourie du Preez and Francois Hougaard, along with All Blacks half-backs Andy Ellis and Jimmy Cowan.
None of the talks though with any of those named were successful however, resulting in Larkham giving his backing to Dowsett and another youngster in Joe Powell.
A number of other Australian scrum-halves are set to head overseas at the end of the year including Will Genia, Luke Burgess and Brendan McKibbin, leave the stocks running a little low in the land of the Wallabies.
