Chiefs tackle Blues at Eden Park in final game of SR Aotearoa 2021
- 2216
The final game of Super Rugby Aotearoa 2021 is upon us and the tournament is expected to finish on a high as Chiefs take on the Blues at Eden Park.
For the second year running, the title will go to the Crusaders, who once again enjoyed a great campaign which saw them record 6 victories from their 8 outings, yielding a total of 28 points.
The Chiefs have a chance to equal that win ratio, as they currently hold 5 wins from 7 games. Special mention must be made of the Chiefs turnaround this year after not managing a single victory in 8 matches during the 2020 campaign.
Conversely, the Blues have not enjoyed the same success of last year, having won 3 of their 7 outings thus far, which is good enough for 15 log points.
Last weekend, Leon MacDonald’s charges were soundly beaten by the Crusaders who ran out 29-6 winners.
The Chiefs’ game last week involved one of the moments of the tournament as the brilliance of Damian McKenzie once again took centre stage to yield the end result.
The Chiefs and Blues last met in Round 5 of the current competition – the former pulling off something of an upset to take the spoils in a fantastic game.
It will hopefully be more of the same from these two sides as they close off what has been yet another great display of rugby coming out of the New Zealand domestic scene.
