6 Nations - Round 4 Top Stats Performers - most tackles, turnovers & more

Round 4 saw two nail-biting encounters and one walk-over with England edging out France at Twickenham 23-20 before Ireland slipped past the Scots 27-24. The Wales vs Italy clash was decidedly more one-sided as Alun Wyn Jones’ men crushed the Azzurri 48-7 in Rome.

Wales now have one hand on the trophy going into the final round with an 8-point cushion ahead of second-placed Ireland. France and Scotland do, however, still technically have a game in hand, though it is not yet confirmed whether that fixture will go ahead.

We now take a look at the top stats performers from the penultimate round.

 

Tackles


The Welsh loose-forwards were in fine form again this round with Josh Navidi and Justin Tipuric heading up the tackle stats.

Navidi pulled off an impressive 23 tackles while Tipuric managed 19.

France’s lock Paul Willemse, and Scotland’s Jonny Gray each contributed 18.

Carries

Hard-working Italian flanker Sebastian Negri helped his side’s cause with a stout effort on attack with a total of 21 carries.

England’s Billy Vunipola has been in resurgent form of late and managed 18 carries while Ireland’s CJ Stander – a regular near the top of this stat – made 17.

Metres gained

Pacey Welsh outside back Louis Rees-Zammit topped this stat with another great performance which saw him rack up 144m.

Second and third place were taken by Jonny May (England) and Duhan van der Merwe (Scotland) with 107 and 85 metres respectively.

Defenders beaten

Big Duhan van der Merwe powered past 8 defenders in Round 4, closely followed by French winger Teddy Thomas with 7.

Turnovers won

Italy’s flanker Johan Meyer did good work on the ground in Round 4, managing to make 3 turnovers against the Welsh.

Tadhg Beirne (Ireland), Justin Tipuric (Wales), Jamie Ritchie (Scotland), Robbie Henshaw (Ireland) and Romain Taofifenua (France) each made 2.

Clean breaks

Rees-Zammit appears again, this time topping the clean breaks stat with 4. Rees-Zammit’s teammate George North and England’s Jonny May made 3 apiece.
