Western Province take a 13-5 lead over the Lions into halftime. Western Province opened the scoring with an early penalty, but then picked up a yellow card which the Lions capitalized on immediately crossing for the games first try to lead 5-3. A Western Province penalty saw the hosts back in front and they extended that lead with a try late in the first half to lead by eight points at the break.
