A former SACS student Leighton van Wyk made his mark on the Varsity Cup in 2015. He returned the following year and his stellar performances with the University of Pretoria lead to him signing a deal with the Pumas for the 2016 Currie Cup competition. He made his Currie Cup debut against Boland in a tightly fought match that Boland won 25-22
