Started his career in rugby league representing the Hawkes Bay Unicorns as a 17-year-old.
His rugby league career lasted until his switch to rugby union starting off playing for Top 14 side Section Paloise. Elijah was instrumental in their promotion from the Pro D2 league.
He was named as part of the team of the year after scoring 25 tries in the 2 season with the club.
Mid way through the 2015/16 season he was loaned to Pro D2 side Sporting club Albigeois, before putting pen to paper with AS Béziers Hérault to keep him at the club for 3 years.
In June 2019, he signed a deal with Ealing Trailfinders for the 2019/20 season.
Niko impressed with seven tries in 14 appearances for Yorkshire Carnegie before a move to Ealing last season.
He signed for the Bedford Blues ahead of the 2020/21 season.
