A young man that caused a lot of mayhem as a flanker in his Schools Rugby career with Gonzaga College, Ryan made his senior Leinster debut as a 19-year-old in December 2009.
An abrasive hard running back row, Dominic Ryan is renowned for the ferocity in which he tackles his opponents. Ryan made his Leinster debut in 2009, and rose to prominence when he scored twice in Leinster’s 2011 Heineken Cup victory over Saracens.
Ryan was capped in schools selections by Leinster and Ireland and has appeared a whopping 20 times for the Ireland Under 20s, winning the 2010 Six Nations, and he has played twice with the Irish Wolfhounds. He was included in the senior national squad for the 2014 Autumn internationals, making his debut starting at blindside flanker against Georgia in November 2014.
In April 2017, Leinster Rugby confirmed that they will not be offering Ryan a contract for the 2017/18 season.
In May 2017, Dominic signed for Leicester Tigers for the 2017/18 season, the 27-year-old Ryan made 113 appearances for Leinster, playing across the back row but predominantly at blindside or openside flanker, scoring 18 tries, after making his debut for the province in 2009.
Ryan only managed to accumulate 5 appearances in his Tigers career, before being forced into an early retirement due to concussion issues.
