Stander was a member of the Kwazulu-Natal U18 side that finishes 11th at Craven Week in 2007
He went on to make his Currie Cup debut for the Sharks against the Blue Bulls in Pretoria; starting flanker for the Sharks XV that loses their Vodacom Cup quarter final, 37-36, to the Blue Bulls.
The aggressive flanker made his Super Rugby debut for the Western Force in 2014 against the Waratahs; playing 14 matches in his first season for the club.
Entering his third season with the Western Force, Stander has scored 10 points in 33 Super Rugby appearances.
