Ben Volavola, born in Sydney, Australia, is a rugby union player of Fijian and Indo-Fijian descent. He has had a diverse rugby career playing for various teams in Australia, France, and Fiji.
Volavola attended St George Christian School, Endeavour Sports High School, and Newington College during his secondary schooling years in Australia.
He initially learned to play rugby in Fiji before moving back to Sydney with his mother and younger brother. In 2012, he completed his Certificate III and IV in Fitness at the Australian Institute of Fitness, as well as a Business Diploma with the Australian Vocational Training Academy.
His rugby career took off when he played for Southern Districts in the Shute Shield, earning him a place in the Waratahs Extended Playing Squad for the 2013 Super Rugby season.
Volavola represented Australia Under 20 in the 2011 IRB Junior World Championship. He signed with the Crusaders for the 2016 Super Rugby season, replacing several number 10 players who had moved to play in Europe. This signing also confirmed his eligibility to represent Fiji in the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
Volavola made his debut for Fiji against the Māori All Blacks in 2015, and he started as a flyhalf against Tonga in the 2015 World Rugby Pacific Nations Cup.
He was selected as part of Fiji's 31-man squad for the Rugby World Cup 2015, playing in all four matches against England, Australia, Wales, and Uruguay.
In January 2017, he joined the Melbourne Rebels in Super Rugby for one season before departing the club. Volavola then signed with French Top 14 club Bordeaux Bègles in October 2017.
He later joined Racing 92 in June 2018 as a backup playmaker. In May 2020, he signed with Pro D2 side Perpignan for the 2020-21 season.
Throughout his career, Volavola has showcased his skills and versatility, playing as a flyhalf, fullback, and utility back.
He has also represented Canterbury in provincial rugby in New Zealand and has made appearances in the European Cups.
Volavola has spent the seven seasons in France with Racing 92, Perpignan and most recently, Agen before signing for Leicester Tigers in 2024
