Andy Long takes the long road

Former Newcastle and England hooker Andy Long is taking on the Marathon des Sables in aid of Challenging MND.

He will be running 270km across the Sahara Desert in just six days starting from April 05 until April 11, carrying his own food and kit for the duration.

This will be an iconic test of physical and mental endurance for the 48 year old.

Having retired from rugby, Long took up running as he enjoyed it when he was playing. He said it was a bit of solitude as well because

when you are running, you are just out there with your thoughts.

Andy has got involved in a few fundraising challenges and says it has been a great journey so far.
