Moore completes WRU tenure as head of women's and girls' rugby

The Welsh Rugby Union can confirm Belinda Moore will complete her tenure as the head of women’s and girls rugby and will play a key role in the appointment of her successor.

Moore was appointed as the WRU’s first historic head of the women’s and girls rugby in Wales in January 2025.

Her appointment was until the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 in England but was extended until the end of the 2026 Women’s Six Nations campaign.

Moore has been appointed to a new role with England and Wales Cricket Board as The Hundred’s Growth Director.

The former Premiership Women’s Rugby CEO brought a wealth of experience of women’s rugby in England to Welsh rugby and was tasked to put the game on a firm footing.

Her role was to help build the women’s and girls game in Wales and part of her remit was the expansion of the new Celtic Challenge, the cross-border league between sides from Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Moore, whose role was created after the WRU’s Independent Review in 2024, will complete the contract discussions with the players in the Wales Women’s professional squad.

She will support on the recruitment for the new role and will lead and complete the discussions of the new contracts for the Wales Women’s senior side.

She has led on ensuring the players have proper representation with the WRPA, with a new Player Development Manager role to be appointed.

Her role with the WRU will be completed at the end of March.

Moore, said: “The intention was always to start the process to embed the women’s game at the Welsh Rugby Union and to identify and find my successor.

“There is no denying this has been a challenging year after the recent World Cup campaign but there is genuine exciting young talent coming through and we are seeing those players excel in the new expanded Celtic Challenge.

“We had a record crowd for a Wales women’s team for the visit of England at the home of Welsh rugby for last season’s W6N. We open the 2026 Championship with visit of Scotland to the Principality Stadium on Saturday, April 11^th.

“It shows how quicky the women’s game in Wales has developed that it is now an expectation that the national team play international rugby at the best stadium in the world.”
