Former Sharks and Stormers centre Dick Muir represented the Springboks on 10 occasions (5 Tests, 5 Tour matches).

After a successful playing career Muir took up the head coach role at the Sharks where he helped the side to the 2007 Super Rugby final.

From there he joined the Springbok coaching staff under Peter de Villiers from 2008 to 2011.

He also coached the Lions for the 2010 Super Rugby season.

After the 2011 Rugby World Cup Muir essentially took up a hiatus from full-time coaching and was involved with the Investec Rugby Academy in South Africa.

He returned to coaching in 2017 as Durban based Crusaders Rugby Clubs' director of rugby.

In November 2017 the Sharks appointed Muir as the team’s attack and backline play consultancy basis for the 2018 season.
