Super Rugby Team Of The Week: Round 3

This weekend’s Super Rugby Team of the Week is dominated by New Zealanders but you will find a sprinkle of other nations too. 

The Chiefs and the Stormers are the only two unbeaten sides in the tournament right now but there is still plenty of rugby to be played. 

Here is our Super Rugby TOTW: 

15. Damian McKenzie (Chiefs)


McKenzie was in fine form for the Chiefs and really for showing the world what they are missing! The fullback scored a try, made six tackle busts, two line breaks, two try assists and lastly average 10.8 metres per run in the game. 

14. Sergeal Petersen (Stormers)


Had a wonderful attacking game against the Lions, which saw the Stormers only win in the last minute of the match. The former Cheetahs' winger had six runs for 91 metres, two line breaks, one line break assist, one try assist and one try to his name. 

13. Shogo Nakano (Sunwolves)

Came off the bench but made a HUGE impact and deserves is mentioned in this TOTW. Nakano made 74 metres with the ball in hand, beat three defenders, had two clean breaks and scored a lovely try. 

12. Jack Goodhue (Crusaders) 

 

He was busy the entire game and then produced a delicious offload to set up George Bridge's try, before scoring one of his own in a classy performance.

11. Ben Lam (Hurricanes)

 

A massive game from the left-winger. Broke the Sharks open at the start of the second half with two impressive tries to open up a 14-point lead.

10. Richie Mo’unga (Crusaders)

 

The All Black flyhalf will certainly be happier with his performance this weekend than he did in week one. He controlled the game nicely and made sure his outside backs got quality front foot ball. Mo’unga also managed one try assist before scoring his own try. 

9. Brad Weber (Chiefs) 

The Chief's half-back got his first start of the competition last weekend and showed why he is an All Black. He set up Damian McKenzie for his try, made a try-saving tackle, and offered loads going forward.

8. Hoskins Sotutu (Blues)

The dangerous ball carrier powered his way past five defenders and stood out for a pretty average Blues side. He also made 12 carries in the match and made all seven of his tackles against the Crusaders. 

7. Tom Christie (Crusaders)

The 21-year-old put in another 23 tackles this weekend, and he is a stand-out on defence and handy with ball in hand. A bright spot at flanker for the Crusaders.

6. Lachlan Boshier (Chiefs)

Played No. 7 this last week but is usually a number 6, his numbers were brilliant against the Sunwolves, and we just had to include him. Boshier made five carries for 74 metres, scored a try and also made 10 out of 10 tackles on defence. 




5. Josh Dickson (Highlanders)

The lock forward had seven carries for 20 Metres against the Waratahs this weekend, won 12 of his lineouts and on defence produced 15 tackles.  

4. Guido Petti (Jaguares)

The Argentine won 11 lineouts against the Reds and made 12 tackles on defence. He also had a lot of work with the ball in hand, as he carried it seven times up field. 

3. Michael Ala’alatoa (Crusaders)

The Crusaders prop started on the bench this week but an early injury forced him to come in the first half and boy did he do well. The No. 3 made 11 tackles, forced six scrum penalties and managed one try assist. 

2. Folau Fainga’a (Brumbies) 

The Wallabies' hooker makes it into our team for the second week in a row and boy does he have some impressive numbers. The front rower scored three tries, made eight Carries for 22 Metres, had seven tackles and managed a 94% lineout win rate success. 

1. Steven Kitshoff (Stormers)

The Stormers captain was absolutely immense once again this weekend, he made seven tackles on defence, won 3 breakdown turnovers and also forced three scrum penalties in much-needed positions.
