Saber Cats sign loose forward Jamason Fa’anana-Schultz

The Houston SaberCats have bolstered their loose forward stocks with the addition of Jamason Fa’anana-Schultz.

A blindside flanker or No8, the 22-year-old arrives from Japan where he has been playing for the NTT Docomo Red Hurricanes in the Japan Top League.

Fa’anana-Schultz is Australian born and raised but also qualifies for both Samoa and the USA due to his parents. He represented Samoa u20 in 2015 after coming through the Queensland Reds academy system and playing for the University of Queensland.

After a breakthrough campaign with Southern Districts in the 2017 Shute Shield, Fa’anana-Schultz was signed by the Waratahs on a development contract though he did not make an appearance with the Super Rugby side.

He then moved to Auckland and played one game during the 2017 Mitre 10 Cup season.

The powerful ball carrier is the second signing announced by the SaberCats in recent days, following Eagles winger Deion Mikesell. Houston are currently in 7th place on the Major League Rugby table and will be hoping their new duo can inspire better results in the second half of the campaign.
