The first time Exeter Chiefs and Racing 92 had met in European competition and a chance for both teams to claim their first-ever European trophy.

It was also the first European rugby final staged without a crowd due to the Covid pandemic. Fortunately, the passion shown on the pitch from both sets of players more than made up for the lack of atmosphere in the stands.
