With 10 tries scored in what was a club record Premiership win, Exeter Chiefs’ victory over London Welsh on Saturday had all of the hallmarks of a pretty standard rout.
And for the final 55 minutes of the contest it was exactly that, as all of the problems that have dogged the Exiles this season – including a leaky defence, powder-puff tackling and an almost non-existent scrum – came back to haunt them.
But they did at least make it interesting for 25 minutes, surging into 5-0 and 12-6 leads before Will Chudley’s try saw the pressure lifted from the Chiefs’ shoulders.
