Born in Auckland, New Zealand, Mumm attended the King's School, Sydney, along with other professionals Benn Robinson, Daniel Halangahu and Will Caldwell. Having left school, Mumm entered the Waratahs academy and made his Super Rugby debut in 2007.
Mumm made his international debut in 2008 before linking up with Exeter Chiefs in 2012. In 2015 he made his return to the Waratahs and was immediately selected into the Australian Rugby Championship squad in the build-up to the 2015 World Cup.
He impressed in the build up, scoring a try against the USA, and as a result has earned a spot in Cheika's 31 man squad for the RWC this fall.
Having previously spent eight years with the Waratahs before jetting off to Exeter Chiefs from 2012, Mumm returned to the club in August 2016, signing a one-year deal.
The 2017 season will see Mumm add to his 101 Super Rugby caps.
In May 2017 Mumm announced that we will retire from international rugby at the end of the season focus on philanthropic interests. Mumm represented Australia 57 times scoring 5 tries.
