Can the Aussies go all the way?
Ladbrokes are offering a price boost of 9-1 on the Aussies to win the RWC
Current form
Australia come into the World Cup as Rugby Championship winners, winning all 3 games which included a 27-19 win over the current World Champions, New Zealand. The Wallabies showed great form in the tournament and played some real dangerous rugby at times. The home win against the Springboks was also a huge win as they showed great character to come back in the final 20 and steal it at the death against such a strong side.
Their back-row
Australia may possess the best back row in world rugby at the moment with both Michael Hooper and David Pocock on the same team. It may be a struggle to fit both in the starting XV but even with only one starting, to have one of these 2 come off the bench is something sides will fear. At the breakdown, these 2 are up there with the best at the moment and will win the Wallabies lots of possession when the ball hits the deck.
Israel Folau
One of the most exciting players in rugby. The former NRL star has been a revelation since his debut in 2013, his stunning footwork and attacking ability have taken the world by storm. The full back is great in the air and with 2 years experience in rugby under his belt, Folau will be hitting his peak as a Union player and will light up the tournament.
Backline
On the counter attack, the Wallabies are devastating with the back 3 able to punish you at any stage in the match. Very good moves off the set piece as shown against the Springboks where Adam Ashley Cooper scored a great try off the line out. The addition of Matt Giteau brings great experience to the squad and will be good cover for Matt Toomua at 12 who is a valuable member of this Wallabies side.
Less pressure to win the Pool
All the focus on Pool A will lie with England as they are the hosts and favourties for the pool. This can work in Australia's favour as they can stick to their game plan and be underdogs to win the pool. Matt Giteau and Dean Mumm have already started the mind games with England labeling them favourites, suiting the Wallabies right down to the ground.
Michael Cheika
The former Leinster and Waratahs coach has brought consistency and structure since taking over from Ewen McKenzie. Cheika's style of rugby suits the Wallabies and it's shown as they've jumped up the rankings in the last year.
