Mayhew joined London Irish as injury cover during the 2012 season and made four appearances for the club, including two in the Aviva Premiership.
The hooker played 20 times for the Falcons and scored two tries after signing from North Harbour in New Zealand.
Now in his mid twenties Mayhew has quite some speed for a 110kg 6 foot hooker. The hooker joins his brother, Richard, at Yorkshire Carnegie ahead of the 2016/17 season.
In October 2017, Mike Mayhew signed for Harlequins from Yorkshire Carnegie on a three-month loan deal.
