Waratahs opt for the posts in the final play of the game. Barnes converts from a long way out and seals a well deserved home win against a gutsy Stormer opposition. Credit to a solid defensive effort by the Stormers, who will be disappointed to concede the lead so late in the game. Israel Folua crosses for his seventh try of the season and the Waratahs are rewarded for a sustained period of pressure in the Stormers twenty-two. They turn down points on two occasions, backing their attacking capabilities and setting the scrum. The Aussie forwards work hard, on the ruck fringes, grinding towards the elusive whitewash. Eventually, the ball is swept wide to Folua who darts through a gaping hole and dots down.

When Paddy Ryan crashes to ground at scrum-time, Stormers earn a penalty and kick for territory. They set the maul and begin to edge towards the whitewash. Five metres out, Elstadt splits from the back but is dragged down just short. Timani enters the ensuing ruck illegally and is penalised immediately. Pieterson returns the lead to the visitors.

Fourie handles the ball illegally in a ruck and gifts Waratahs with the opportunity to retake the lead. McKibben's kick bisects the uprights and the flags go up. 11-9. Tries proving hard to come by in this match..

Waratahs build their way into the Stormers half and fling the ball wide to exploit an overlap, but a pass is fumbled and the ball fly-hacked down-field by a South African boot. Polotau-Nau crashes down on the ball as it trickles into the Waratah half, but is pinged for holding. Pieterson makes no mistakes.

Positive start to the second half for Stormers, racking up a number of phases in the Waratahs' half. Then when Adam Ashley Cooper shoots out of the line and tackles a player without the ball, Pieterson is handed the chance to reduce the gap.
