Jamie Blamire, born on December 22, 1997, is an English professional rugby union player who currently serves as a hooker for Newcastle Falcons in Premiership Rugby.
Hailing from Seaton, Cumbria, Blamire started his rugby journey as part of Seaton Rangers RLFC. Although he initially played rugby league during his youth in Workington, he made the switch to rugby union and joined Workington Zebras. His talent and potential were recognized, leading to county recognition with Cumbria.
At the age of 16, Blamire moved to Gosforth Academy to join the Newcastle Falcons' AASE scheme. He signed his first senior academy contract with the Falcons in the summer of 2016, progressing through the ranks. He represented England at the Under-18 and Under-20 levels, earning caps for his country.
Blamire featured in the England U20 squad for the 2017 U20 Six Nations Championship, scoring a try against Italy and contributing to England's grand slam victory in the final game against Ireland. He was also part of the squad that finished as runners-up to New Zealand in the 2017 World Rugby Under 20 Championship.
Blamire's debut for the Falcons' first team came in the 2017-18 European Challenge Cup win against Bordeaux, appearing twice more from the bench that year. He showcased his scoring ability by scoring the decisive try that sent the Falcons through to the semi-finals of the Premiership Rugby Cup against Sale Sharks in February 2019. In May 2019, he made his Premiership debut against Gloucester, making an impact by scoring a try after coming on as a back-row replacement.
Blamire's contributions earned him the Academy Player of the Season award for 2018-19. He signed a new contract with the Falcons in February 2020 and played a crucial role in their promotion during the 2019-20 season.
In June 2021, Blamire's hard work and talent were recognized when he was selected by Eddie Jones for the senior England team. He made his debut for England against the United States at Twickenham on July 4, 2021, scoring a try just three minutes after coming on as a replacement.
In his second cap against Canada the following week, Blamire achieved a remarkable feat by scoring a hat-trick of tries. His progress from the Under-18 and Under-20 levels to the senior squad reflects his determination and skill.
