The New Zealand-born former London Irish skipper is a versatile back able to slot in at flyhalf of centre with relative ease. Bowden represented new Zealand at Under-17, U19 and U21 level and would be a test match player in most other countries. He offers creativity at first receiver or from deeper in the midfield and was Players’ Player of the Year at London Irish in the 2010/11 season.
In May 2014, he signed with the Blues to return to New Zealand for the 2015 and 2016 Super Rugby seasons.
The move was short-lived as he returned to England to join Bath back in the Aviva Premiership on a lucrative two and a half year contract from January 2016.Bath Rugby have confirmed that Bowden has been released from his contract by mutual consent. Bowden, who joined the Club from Super Rugby team The Blues in January 2016, will return to his native New Zealand, before deciding the next step in his rugby career.
In August 2017 Bowden was named in Auckland's Mitre 10 Cup squad.
