Charlie Atkinson began his rugby journey at Oxford RFC, aged five.
He was educated at Abingdon School from 2013 until 2020 and played in the first XV rugby team. Atkinson played twice for England U-18.
The fly-half joined the Wasps academy in February 2016. Rugby runs in the family with Dad Ian playing for Tynedale RFC, Northumberland and also having England U18 trials.
Atkinson made his Premiership debut for Wasps against Sale Sharks during the 2019/20 season. The Wasps Academy product extended his contract with the Club and was promoted to the first-team squad in May 2021.
Atkinson has been named in the England 2021 U20 32-man Six Nations Squad.
By the end of the 2020/21 season, Atkinson has made 15 appearances for Wasps scoring 15 points.
In June 2022 Atkinson was called up by coach Eddie Jones to join a training camp with the senior England squad
Following Wasps administration in October 2022, Atkinson signed a "long term" contract with Leicester Tigers on 31 October 2022.
He made his debut as a replacement in Tigers 1 point defeat away to Bath on 11 November 2022.
