Eligible for Scotland through his father, Nottingham born Ryder, who represented England at U-16, U-18 and U-19 levels, switched allegiances to Scotland in November 2010, as he appeared for their A side against the USA Eagles.
Ryder came through the academy at the Leicester Tigers and made three first team appearances before he joined Saracens in 2005.
He established himself at Saracens, making 68 appearances in six years, before, in 2010, he joined the Glasgow Warriors on loan.
Additionally, whilst a Saracens’ player, Ryder played for Taranaki during the 2008 Air New Zealand Cup.
Ryder’s form for the Warriors was requisite for him to seal the deal permanently at the beginning of the 2011/2012 season.
His Scotland senior debut came against Fiji in 2012 and won two Scottish caps since that game.
On 1 May 2015, Ryder signed for Yorkshire Carnegie who were competing in the RFU Championship in the 2015–16 season before retiring from professional rugby in May 2016.
