Nu'u was close to representing the New Zealand u20s in 2017 but failed to make the final cut for the 2017 u20 World Championship.
He played rugby in Christchurch where he furthered his reputation as a talented baller before signing with Southland ahead of the 2018 Mitre 10 Cup.
