Halder spent much of the 2015 provincial season watching from the stands but by the end of the campaign had won a starting spot for the Stags.
He has also been prominent in club rugby in 2015.
Halder had another two standout seasons for the Stags and following injuries to Elliot Dixon and James Lentjies, Halder was called into the Highlanders squad for the 2018 Super Rugby season.
He will look to make his debut in the competition.
