The six players unlikely to feature for the Springboks this weekend

South Africa will once again face Argentina this weekend in their second test in the 2021 Rugby Championship following their 32-12 victory over Los Pumas in their tournament opener.

Jacques Nienaber looks set to be without six players for the second clash with the Argentines with the likes of Marco van Staden added to the injury list.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Springbok assistant coach Deon Davids confirmed that a handful of injured players were on the road to recovery and he was confident that they would be available for the Boks' Australasian tour.

The Springboks are already without Duane Vermeulen, who is recovering from a knee injury while Pieter-Steph du Toit is out with a long-term shoulder injury that was sustained against the British & Irish Lions which saw him being ruled out of the Rugby Championship squad.

South Africa are also down two scrumhalves with Herschel Jantjies withdrawing from the matchday 23 to face Argentina while Faf de Klerk is still nursing a muscle strain he sustained during the second British and Irish Lions test.

The six current squad members on the injury list are scrumhalves Faf de Klerk (leg muscle strain), Herschel Jantjies (hip pointer), and loose forwards Marco van Staden, Rynhardt Elstadt, Duane Vermeulen (all three have ankle issues), as well as Jean-Luc du Preez (knee).

"We're a bit thin in terms of scrumhalves and loose forwards. There are a couple of guys who are struggling there with injuries," Davids said.

"A guy like Jaden Hendrikse came in and had his first cap this weekend and we also have Jean-Luc in the squad because of injuries to Duane while Marco got injured in the last minute of the game.
