Super Rugby Team Of The Week: Round 4
- 2529
Last weekend’s Super Rugby fixtures had a few shock results and that could be the reason why you see a few unfamiliar names that have creeped into this week's team of the week.
15.David Havili (Crusaders)
The fullback had 17 carries and made 89 metres with the ball in hand for the Crusaders this weekend. He beat six defenders and also had one clean break!
14.Sevu Reece (Crusaders):
Another outstanding performance from the winger - he was too much for the Highlanders to handle on defence, beating six defenders and gaining 64 running metres.
13.Hunter Paisami (Reds)
A few weeks ago Paisami was only playing club rugby and has come in to the Reds team to replace a very talented Jordan Petaia who got injured. The outside centre scored a try and had 16 carries against the Sunwolves, almost everyone an effective one.
12. Jack Goodhue (Crusaders):
The All Black managed to beat four defenders and was a vital cog in the Crusaders' wheel as they turned up the heat against the Highlanders - made nine tackles too.
11. Makazole Mapimpi (Sharks)
The South African try scoring machine dotted the ball down over the white line on two occasions and also had the opportunity to complete a hat-trick, but opted to throw a generous final pass to teammate Curwin Bosch.
10.Noah Lolesio (Brumbies)
Some will say that last weekend’s game was a bit of a breakout game for the young 10. The 20-year-old controlled matters on the field for his team, setup Tom Banks for a try and kicked all his points vs the Chiefs.
9. Tate McDermott (Reds)
McDermott had another brilliant game for Queensland against the Sunwolves. The halfback was a super linkman for the Reds on Saturday night and also managed to score two tries for his efforts.
8. Pete Samu (Brumbies)
The no. 8, who scored a double against the Chiefs, had a real strong physical presence for his side on Saturday. He got around the park on attack and defence and has certainly shown that he is a force to be reckoned with in this competition.
7. Pieter-Steph du Toit (Stormers)
The World Player of the Year was his old self again this weekend and put in a massive shift for his franchise. The flanker made eight carries, completed 12 tackles and won two turnovers for his side.
6. Cullen Grace (Crusaders):
The young flanker had a standout performance against the Highlanders and made all 15 of his tackles.
5. Juandre Kruger (Bulls)
Although he ended up on the losing team, the Springbok produced a brilliant lineout showing in tough weather conditions in Pretoria. The veteran lock showed his pace with a searing break through the Blues midfield, and also got stuck in on defence (nine tackles).
4 Salmaan Morerat (Stormers)
The young lock put in an impressive performance against a tough Jaguares outfit. Weather conditions were not great at Newlands but Morerat put in a big shift in defence and made 12 out of his 13 tackles.
3 Thomas du Toit (Sharks)
Scrummed really well against the Rebels and did a lot of work with the ball in hand. The Springbok made 35 metres with the ball in hand and made 12 tackles on defence.
2. James Parsons (Blues):
The standout hooker this week - won 12 lineouts before he went off injured.
1. JP Smith (Reds)
Dominated the scrums against the Sunwolves and made five carries in the match.
