The Lions claimed a 49-35 away win over the Bulls in a frenetic round 3 Super Rugby encounter. The Lions built up a 21-9 lead thanks to three first half tries, but the Bulls ran in their opening try near the end of the half to trail 21-14 at the break. The Bulls scored straight away in the second half to level the scores at 21-21. The Lions responded with their fourth try to hit the front once more, which was followed by the defining period of the match. The Bulls went down to 13 players after picking up two yellow cards in quick succession, with the Lions awarded a penalty try and running in another score almost immediately to take control of the match at 42-21. The Lions put the game to bed with their seventh try with around ten minutes remaining, but credit to the Bulls who fought to the end running in two late consolation scores.
