Super Rugby AU to Kick Off on 3 July

Super Rugby AU will kick off in Australia on 3 July. An agreement has been reached between Rugby Australia and the main broadcaster in the country, this giving the green light for the tournament to go forward.

Rugby Australia said in a statement:

“The five-team competition, which features the four Australian Super Rugby teams plus the Western Force, will kick off on 3 July and will be contested over 12 consecutive weekends.”

The Covid-19 situation in Australia seems to be such that the government feels that it is safe for rugby to be played.

Although the Brumbies were sitting atop the Australian conference when the official Super Rugby tournament was halted, their position and points will count for nothing in Super rugby AU as all the five teams will start from scratch.
