Rugby Championship Highlights: Argentina v South Africa (Round 2)

Argentina held on for a historic 26-24 win over South Africa in round two of the Rugby Championship. After a tight opening twenty minutes, a yellow card for Argentina allowed South Africa to take a 3-0 lead. Despite being a man down it was Argentina who began to gain the ascendency, slotting two successful penalties as well as a scoring a beautiful try to take a 13-3 lead into the break. The Springboks started the second half strongly, narrowing the gap with a penalty before crossing for their first try to tie things up at 13-13 after 46 minutes. But Argentina responded well, scoring from a superb cross kick and adding another penalty to once again establish a ten point lead. The sea-saw battle continued with a South African penalty closing the gap to seven before they crossed for their second try unfortunately missing the relatively easy conversion to trail by a two points. With seven minutes to play South Africa were awarded a penalty and hit the front for the very first time at 24-23. However, Argentina were not to be denied a famous win as they worked themselves up the field and were rewarded with a penalty with three minutes remaining that saw them to two point victory 26-24. It was the first time Argentina has defeated South Africa on home soil.
