The Disciplinary process related to Mirco Spagnolo Red Card in the BKT United Rugby Championship Round 9 game against Zebre Parma on Saturday, December 28 has resulted in a five game suspension.
After an act of foul play by Benetton player No 17 (Mirco Spagnolo), referee Gianluca Gnecchi showed the Player a Red Card in the 58th minute of the game under Law 9.11 – Players must not do anything that is reckless or dangerous to others including leading with the elbow or forearm, or jumping into, or over, a tackler.
In the Player’s responses to the Judicial Officer overseeing the disciplinary process (Mr. Neil Snellenburg), he had accepted that he had committed an act of foul play which warranted a Red Card. Mr. Snellenburg found that the incident met the Red Card threshold, with entry point of top-end warranting ten weeks. The Player received full mitigation (50%) due to his apology, good disciplinary record and his full engaged participation throughout the disciplinary process which results in a five game suspension.
