Max Deegan puts in a starring performance as Leinster smash Connacht

Max Deegan did his hopes of earning a test debut during the 2020 Six Nations no harm with a starring performance against Connacht as Leinster powered to their 10th straight victory this season in the PRO14.

The 23-year-old loose forward has been battling with Caelan Doris for the starting jersey at Leinster with both players attending Ireland's camp over December.

However, Deegan put his hand up high for selection with an outstanding performance in the Irish derby against Connacht.

Deegan's performance was far from just an attacking masterclass as he made all of his attempted 29 tackles.

He got the ball rolling in the thumping over Connacht with this try:

He followed it up as he got in the mix once again for the second try. He broke the line from the lineout and combined brilliantly with Ciaran Frawley with young outhalf going in under the sticks to score.

The fourth try coming in the 20th minute secured the bonus point for Leinster with Ruddock win the lineout and Leinster dumming in the maul. The ball went out to Deegan who hit Joe Tomane with a short ball as the former Wallaby powered over.

Deegan's stormer continued in the second half as he played a massive role in the first try of the second half and Leinster's sixth.

He fended off Caolin Blade to break through the gap and when the halfback came back to complete the tackle he offloaded to Garry Ringrose who scored!
