How the Springboks set up Ethan Hooker for his try
- 1029
The Springboks have a great attack and Wales saw it first hand as they make space for Willemse to set up Hooker for a try. This is how the World Champions manipulated the defence with four steps on attack.
1: Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu Hidden:

Feinberg-Mngomezulu hits the attack from behind the scrum and sweeps around creating an extra man for the defenders to manage
2: Damian de Allende runs a great decoy:

The key to this is de Allende is a viable option to be a carrier as he runs an 'unders' line at the seam of the first and second defenders. This forces them to hold their ground and not over commit bodies wide. With the second defender not able to shift yet, the third defender has to stay 'connected' on defence and is also held up
3: Sacha Feinberg-Mgomezulu uses his pace to suck in two defenders:

With the second last defender held up from the de Allende run and the third defender having to hold before shifting, Feinberg-Mngomezulu uses his speed to hit the gap between both of those players and they are fored to try and tackle him. This is a key move as the third defender is unable to shift out to Willemse out wide. The pass gets away to the Springbok 15 and he advances.
4: Damian Willemse squares up the defence:

Willemse and Hooker are both in space but can only operate in 5m of space, Willemse squares up his shoulders and body aiming for the inside shoulder of the Welsh defender stopping him from shepherding the South African's into touch. This is made better by Willemse squeezing off a very good pass, an unlikely pass meaning the defence are committed to taking the man down and leaving Hooker open. Hooker takes the pass in space and does well to finish.
👌 That movement from SFM after getting the ball is huge, then DW turning his shoulders in and squeezing off the pass followed by EH powering through the lazy D pic.twitter.com/FNwPEBvo8y
