HIGHLIGHTS: Ireland v France

France moved to the summit of the Six Nations standings as they held on for a 15-13 away win over Ireland in round 2. Both sides missed a chance to open the scoring, with Matthieu Jalibert and Billy Burns' first shots at goal off their mark. Burns was successful with his second penalty attempt as Ireland drew first blood to lead 3-0 midway through the first half. France were then reduced to 14 players for ten minutes, with Bernard Le Roux picking up a yellow card for tripping 23 minutes into the contest. Despite the Irish numerical advantage and dominance in possession, it was France who crossed for the games first try after some brilliant offloads saw Damian Penaud charge deep into the 22 with a quick recycle seeing them shift it left to Charles Ollivon to canter in around the half hour mark to make it 7-3. Jalibert would add a late first half penalty as France took a 10-3 lead into the break. France struck first in the second half, with a cut out pass to man of the match Brice Dulin seeing him beat a defender before popping it to Penaud to dive over in the right hand corner to push their lead out to 15-3 after 55 minutes. Ireland were desperate for a response and hit back immediately as a stolen lineout bounced up into the arms of Ronan Kelleher to race away down the right to score. Ireland had their tails up and Ross Byrne added a penalty to make it just a two point game at 15-13 with around 15 minutes remaining. Jalibert missed an opportunity to extend the lead as his penalty attempt struck the post after 71 minutes, but it would matter not as the French managed to control the remaining 10 minutes to make it two victories from two, while Ireland suffered back to back defeats to start the Six Nations.
