Gloucester are considering dusting off the chequebook following the forced retirement of James Simpson-Daniel.

The club were rocked by the news that their record try-scorer would have to hang up his boots last week due to the horrific ankle injury he suffered in November.

His loss is undoubtedly a major blow to the Cherry and Whites but his departure also frees up a substantial figure on the wage bill which the club could now use elsewhere.

While still early days, director of rugby David Humphreys admits the club are exploring a number of options and has not ruled out further signings.
