Bath stung by Wasps

Wasps emerged victorious in their clash with Bath and, in so doing, ascended into the top four on the overall standings.

The final whistle sounded with the scores at 27-23 after a hard-fought tussle.

The teams went into half-time with the scores tied up at 13-all and Wasps showed some real fight to take the game from Bath at the end, a penalty try in the 75^th minute securing their victory.

The main talking point of the game surrounded the occurrence of uncontested scrums after a series of injuries left Wasps without a hooker. Prop Tom West  was given the option of taking on the hooker role in a contested scrum environment but refused anything other than uncontested scrums.

According to laws.worldrugby.org, Rule 13 states:

“Scrums will become uncontested if either team cannot field a suitably trained front row or if the referee so orders.”

Dan Robson, Jack Willis and Tom West all had noteworthy performances for Wasps.

Robson made 5 tackles, gained 14 metres for his side and beat an impressive 6 defenders.

Willis’ performance earned him the man-of-the-match title. The flanker was immense on both attack and defence, making 19 tackles, 9 carries and turning over a number of balls.

Tom West made 17 tackles and 5 carries.

Bath face Harlequins in Round 18 while Wasps tackle Saracens.
