"I am not trying to be a pr**k here but I don’t want you saying that." - Genge frustrated after Leicester defeat

England international loosehead, Ellis Genge’s feathers were ruffled in the wake of Leicester’s 23-14 defeat to Leinster at Welford Road yesterday.

Genge’s Tigers copped a bloody nose in the first half as the teams left the field at the break with the score at 20-0 in the Irishmen’s favour.

Leicester came out fighting in the second stanza, however, and piled on the pressure although it was not enough to snatch victory in the end with the final score showing 23-14 to the visitors.

Leinster are particularly strong at present, boasting a whole host of Irish internationals, including the likes of Johnny Sexton, Tadhg Furlong, Robbie Henshaw and Jack Conan. However, Genge aggressively dismissed that as an excuse when it was put to him that Leicester faced an uphill battle from the start because of Leinster’s significant international contingent.

“Look mate, I am not trying to be a pr**k here but I don’t want you saying that,” Genge said.

“We came out there and we fought as hard as we could. They have 13 internationals but don’t put us in that bracket of 'we gave it a good crack.'

“We could have won that game. I think you know that as well. If anyone is going to say that to me, please don’t because it is going to wind me right up.

“Our boys fought all game so I am not going to come here for someone to say we gave it a good crack and we’re plucky losers. I am not having a pop but I am just saying please don’t say that to me.”

This marks Genge’s last season for Leicester as he will pull on the Bristol Bears jersey next season.
