Welcome to Ultimate Rugby’s coverage of the Currie Cup Premier Division opening clash between the Bulls and Western Province.
Both sides were guaranteed participation in the Premier Division, but took part in the qualification matches held during Super Rugby.
The Bulls finished 7th in qualification with seven wins and seven defeats from 14 matches. They were knocked out at the semi-finals stage last season by Western Province after having finished second on the log.
Western Province topped the recent qualification, winning 13 of their 14 matches. They went down to the Lions in the final of the 2015 event, beating the Bulls 23-18 in the semi-finals.
Western Province emerged victorious over the Bulls in round one of the qualification matches 30-16.
