Weakest yellow card I've ever seen
And referee Gauzere blows his whistle bringing this closely combatted encounter to an end. With only 12 points scored in the second half, it was evident that both defences stepped up the intensity but simple handling errors squandered promising attacking plays. Bayonne dominated the game as a whole and came out deserved winners. That clinical edge was lacking this evening and perhaps prevented Bayonne from closing off the game after 60 minutes. For Montpellier, it was a case of nothing going right this evening. The visitors never really looked like scoring and the ill-discipline at both the scrum and the breakdown really cost them at the end of the day. But that marks the end of Ultimate Rugby's coverage of this thrilling match with Bayonne clinching that much sought after victory. Hope you all enjoyed it!
@Aseri He certainly hasn't lost it! A very well taken try coupled with solid defence capped off a well-rounded and fine performance from Rokocoko.
Still flying! :)
Yellow card for Montpellier! In arguably their most promising attack of the half, Anthony Tuitavake dives rather vehemently into a Bayonne player in the ruck. Referee Gauzere, having consulted with his touch judges, is forced to give the substitute a yellow card. Surely that's game over?
Bayonne, having thought they squandered a promising try-scoring chance with a reckless knock-on, pull off an immensely powerful push at the scrum giving referee Pascal Gauzere no choice to award the penalty. Bustos Moyano makes no mistake with the attempt from just outside the 22, restoring Bayonne's 5 point lead.
Penalty to Montpellier! After a careless knock-on from a high ball, Bayonne are penalised at the following scrum after issues over the binding. Paillague, from only 30m out, sends the ball straight through the uprights to reduce the gap to only 2 points. An exciting final 10 minutes of play to come!
Discipline issues arise once more for Montpellier as they are penalised for offside. Bustos Moyano, from just outside the 22, makes no mistake with the place kick and extends Bayonne's lead to 8 points.
And referee Pascal Gauzere sounds his whistle, bringing this tightly-fought encounter to a close. Bayonne, dominating both territory and possession, are fully deserved to be in front after the opening 40 mins of play. But full credit to Montpellier, who have managed to maximise what little possession they had and posted 13 points on the board. With only 5 points the difference, it is very much all to play for here at the Stade Jean Dauger so be sure to stay tuned to what is poised to be a thrilling final 40 minutes of rugby.
Try for Bayonne! And what spectacular one it is. From about 40m out, the ball is spread wide right to Bustos Moyano who turns on the afterburners in attempt to get around his opposite number. Just as he is about to get tackled, Bustos Moyano puts in a delicate grubber kick down the line before landing on the ball on the Montpellier try line. Fantastic finish! Bustos Moyano however fails to convert his own try, leaving the score at 18-13.
